Forgeries
Buyers should always stay alert...
On several occasions, forgeries of a few Lilliput
Lane models have been produced and sold in small quantities,
both in England and in Asia. The forgeries have typically been offered for sale
at very low prices at venues such as car boot sales. Collectors are urged to be
cautious anytime they see a model that looks like a Lilliput
Lane model which does not have a proper Lilliput
Lane label on the bottom (other than a Paint Your Own or Cast
Your Own model), even if the model has a proper Lilliput Lane backstamp. In addition, if the model is painted in a non-standard way or with
non-standard colours, or if there is a noticeable absence of fine detail on the
model, collectors should question the seller about the authenticity of the
model. Collectors who think that a forgery is being offered for sale are
encouraged to contact Lilliput Lane.
Example: Covered Memories
Our first example of a forgery obtained in England is Covered Memories.
The first photo shows an authentic model, and the next two photos show
forgeries that were produced by making an inverse mould from an authentic
model. Note the colour scheme on the forgeries does not match the authentic
model, and some greens used on the second forgery are not used by Lilliput
Lane. Also, there is no opening through the bridge on the
forgeries, as shown on the fourth photo, whereas you can see all the way
through the bridge on authentic models.

Example: Secret Garden
The next example of a forgery, this time from Asia, is Secret Garden. The
first photo shows an authentic model, and the second photo shows the forgery
that was produced by making an inverse mould from an authentic model. Note the
colour scheme on the forgery does not match the authentic model and there is
less sharpness of detail on the forgery.

Example: Eriskay Croft
The next example of a forgery, also from England, is Eriskay Croft. The
first photo shows an authentic model, and the second photo shows the forgery
that was produced by making an inverse mould from an authentic model. Note the
colour tones on the forgery are slightly different from the authentic model and
there is a slight reduction in the sharpness of detail on the forgery.

Example: Un-named forgery
The last example of a Lilliput Lane model forgery,
obtained in England, is quite different from the previous examples. In this
example, the model is not based upon a Lilliput Lane model,
but a real Lilliput Lane backstamp was put on the model to
make people think it was produced by Lilliput Lane. In
addition, some of the trees were based upon trees on Lilliput
Lane models.

If you suspect a forgery...
Collectors who think that a forgery is being offered for sale are
encouraged to contact Lilliput Lane. Lilliput
Lane respectfully requests that collectors buying their
cottages from anywhere other than authorised retailers are satisfied that the
models are authentic Lilliput Lane products before
purchasing. |
